Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare, degenerative, invariably fatal brain disorder. It affects about one person in every one million people per year worldwide; in the United States there are about 200 cases per year. CJD usually appears in later life and runs a rapid course. Typically, onset of symptoms occurs about age 60, and about 90 percent of patients die within 1 year. In the early stages of disease, patients may have failing memory, behavioral changes, lack of coordination and visual disturbances. As the illness progresses, mental deterioration becomes pronounced and involuntary movements, blindness, weakness of extremities, and coma may occur.
Nancy..... thank you SO much for posting all these pictures; they mean a lot to me. (and no doubt many others!) Please feel the big hug I am sending you; I know this is a terribly hard time. Sara's new place looks beautiful; I'm sure YOU are all responsible for making it look especially homey. And Sara's smile looks genuine. Love, Aunt Pam
ReplyDeleteIt's woonderful to see Sara outside enjoying the sunshine and in the midst of her adored family. It has always been clear that Sara's favorite place is with all of you. When she visited with me in FL in May she talked about Dave the "crab chef" so I know she enjoyed that party! Over the past month I've talked with a circle of friends about Sara and all of our "adventures" - a week in Costa Rica beaching and sightseeing, skiing in the Laurentian Mountains, hiking in the Adirondacks, fur coat buying in Montreal to mention only a few. But we all agreed that sitting on her back deck after a goumet dinner, enjoying the lake and expressing all our dreams and phantasies were the idyllic times. We missed her ever since she left sleepy little Plattsburgh and think of her with love always. Please give Sara a "Plattsburgh hug" from us all. Lovingly, Nancy Charbonneau
